After several hours of working with the Joomla Scriptdowns Plugin for Joomla 3.x I have decided that this is an AWESOME plugin once you get use to it.
It does several things:
- It removes your <!-- Comment Tags --> that developers and installed components add to your site. Especially the K2 plugin.
- It completely shrinks your code if you want it too. Basically removes all the white space. I do not recommend using that feature until you know you are done with your site. More the most part you can turn these features on and off and it puts everything back how it was.
- The final feature that I like is the Exclusives List under the advanced tab. This basically allows you to move all scripts to the bottom, exclude or inclusive. This is great for trouble shooting.
Here is my scenario which may help you.
I did not use the advance tab and just basically told the plugin to move all scripts down to the bottom of the page. This worked perfectly. But, then I noticed when i moused over my top menu, the drop down menu did NOT align with the Parent link. Basically when I moused over link 2, the drop-down showed up underneath link 3.
When I turned the plugin off, it started working again. So, I knew it was one of the scripts being moved that was the problem.
So, headed on over to the advanced tab, switched the Exclusive List tab to NO and started adding each script to this list.
For my page; in the box I added:
(I basically added each word that was before the .js part of the script)
HOWEVER, when I added the (jquery) that is when it broke menu. So, all scripts but that one and the associated menu scripts have been moved. You will have to play around with it if the plugin breaks your site and try to figure out which one it is. It really is worth the time because it makes your site load SO MUCH FASTER.
Well I surely hoped this helped someone and let me know if you have any questions.
Are you getting the  Characters sporadically on your site popping up?
There are many reasons why this is happening. But, the reason it is happening for me is due to the ScriptDowns Plugin I just installed. Needless to say, I had to remove it. It is a beautiful plugin.
When you log into your Joomla Administration Panel, under the RSFirewall Control Panel Module, do you see that your RSFirewall and Joomla Version Status indicators show an error? Mine did too!
I was able to fix it but at the moment I do not understand "WHY" what I fixed caused the problem.
When you first run the system check, it tells you that you need to "fix" the php directives within the Server Configuration section. It will tell you to click a button and the system will attempt to fix the directives that show errors by creating a php.ini file in the root of your site. Well, it does this just fine. However to clear the errors, you must then copy the php.ini file to your Administrative folder. Now, I have installed RSFirewall on hundreds of websites and have only gotten this error that you see to the right, twice.
With a little troubleshooting, I was able to narrow the problem down to this line of code in the php.ini file of the administrator folder.
Remove from php.ini file from the administrator folder only: allow_url_fopen=Off
Now, why does this work? I do not know, but if you delete both php.ini files from both the root and admin folders, this error clears right up. So with testing, I added them both back and then started to systematically delete one line at a time. I narrowed it down to that one line of code in that one file in the admin folder. I hope this helps anyone with a similiar issue.
