Is your Joomla Website, Kunena Forum or Joomla Registration page getting hit by spam bots, fake users or some type of user hack? This happens to hundreds of thousands of users who use the Joomla Registration Page. One would think this problem would have been solved by now but it has not.

If you have done your research you will undoubtedly be told to try recaptcha or a question and answer type anti-spam to stop the Joomla Registration Page from being spammed. The problem is, sometimes they work and most of the time they don't. As of this writing, I have tried the recaptcha on my Joomla Registration Page and I was getting fake accounts signed up within hours of implementation. Then I tried the questions and answers type of catpcha where they actually had to answer a question. That didn't work either.

However, I had the solution already installed in my Joomla Website and didn't even know it; RSJoomla Firewall! With RSFirewall and the combination of anti-spam I have completely STOPPED all Joomla Registration spam, hacks and virus upload attempts on my website and simultaneously completely secured my website. HOW? The RSFirewall has a country blocker... Since I only operate my business in the United States and I have been in business for 10 years, I know where my business comes from. I blocked almost every country except the US. This instantly stopped the spam.

RSFirewall Stops:

  • Virus uploads
  • Code Injections
  • Allows for a second level Admin Login
  • Country Blocking
  • Gives advice how to make some changes to really secure your website

Installing RSFirewall has stopped all spam on our websites and has absolutely been the best anti-spam/anit-hacker/anti-virus component we have come across.

After several hours of working with the Joomla Scriptdowns Plugin for Joomla 3.x I have decided that this is an AWESOME plugin once you get use to it.

It does several things:

  • It removes your <!-- Comment Tags --> that developers and installed components add to your site. Especially the K2 plugin.
  • It completely shrinks your code if you want it too. Basically removes all the white space. I do not recommend using that feature until you know you are done with your site. More the most part you can turn these features on and off and it puts everything back how it was.
  • The final feature that I like is the Exclusives List under the advanced tab. This basically allows you to move all scripts to the bottom, exclude or inclusive. This is great for trouble shooting.

Here is my scenario which may help you.

I did not use the advance tab and just basically told the plugin to move all scripts down to the bottom of the page. This worked perfectly. But, then I noticed when i moused over my top menu, the drop down menu did NOT align with the Parent link. Basically when I moused over link 2, the drop-down showed up underneath link 3.

When I turned the plugin off, it started working again. So, I knew it was one of the scripts being moved that was the problem.

So, headed on over to the advanced tab, switched the Exclusive List tab to NO and started adding each script to this list.

For my page; in the box I added:

rscomments
bbcode
k2
widgetkit-fd9fdbcb
mootools
core
modal
noconflict
script

(I basically added each word that was before the .js part of the script)

HOWEVER, when I added the (jquery) that is when it broke menu. So, all scripts but that one and the associated menu scripts have been moved. You will have to play around with it if the plugin breaks your site and try to figure out which one it is. It really is worth the time because it makes your site load SO MUCH FASTER.

Well I surely hoped this helped someone and let me know if you have any questions.

Are you getting the  Characters sporadically on your site popping up?

There are many reasons why this is happening. But, the reason it is happening for me is due to the ScriptDowns Plugin I just installed. Needless to say, I had to remove it. It is a beautiful plugin.
