Literacy of Kansas City

Literacy Kansas City uses a phonics-based, one-to-one teaching approach that helps students learn to "sound out" words. Prior to being matched with a tutor, students are assessed to determine their reading level and required to attend several StartNow class sessions to learn about study skills, budgeting and other valuable topics. Both students and tutors are asked to make a one-year commitment to the program upon joining.
